Tread Lightly! Spends a Weekend at Overland Expo

Flagstaff, Arizona – The steady line of 4×4 vehicles and RV’s with tires built for dirt and rocks on the road from Flagstaff to Mormon Lake Lodge only meant one thing…  That this sunny weekend in the hills of northern Arizona was going to be the perfect opportunity to work with off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, back country explorers, and families from around the world.  Overland Expo has been drawing in those souls who have been bitten by the adventure bug since 2009 as an annual event to embody the articles, tech, stories and photography from the Overland Journal publication.

This year was their first year in northern Arizona, and as the participants arrived, it was clear that the pine forests were already a favored location.  Many people used Overland Expo as a beginning of their trip (including a couple who got married over the weekend at the event!), while others were just out for the weekend.  With a few thousand participants, over 120 exhibitors, and dozens of classes for all activities and ability types, we stayed busy.

Tread Lightly! set up shop among the other exhibitors for the weekend, and got to work.  Between the couple hundred visitors stopping by the booth, and the winds that hit in full force Friday, it was quite an exciting event.  We were able to sign up 17 new members, one of whom was the lucky winner of a new set of BFGoodrich tires.  The Rover Divas hosted a scavenger hunt that included Tread Lightly! as the final question.  Talking to kids about staying on designated trails, camping responsibly, and picking up trash was inspiring as it was evident that these youth were connected to nature through their activities camping and exploring the back country with their parents.

Finally, a huge “thank you” to the hosts at Overland Expo for their hospitality, and all the vendors and participants for their help in passing the Tread Lightly! message along in their home states (or countries!).  We look forward to seeing you all next year.
